Big Girl Beds

My dad made big girl beds for the girls, which they think are pretty amazing since they came from “Papa Fred.” The transition to actually sleeping in big girl beds has been interesting. The girls’ first night was 4/10/10. Thanks to a great recommendation, we put a gate on the outside of their bedroom door so they would at least stay in their room. Staying in their beds is another story altogether. The first week was full of late night slumber parties where they would stay up until 10:30pm (bedtime is usually 7:30pm). Samantha’s bed seemed to be the hang out spot for them probably because they could look out the front window at any activity going on our street. One night we found Maggie asleep in Samantha’s bed and the next night all three were asleep in Samantha’s bed. It was really sweet to see, but annoying during the next day when we were left to deal with crabby girls who didn’t get enough sleep. So, we are now using bribes (i.e. sucker, phone call to Grandma, etc.) to encourage them to stay in their beds. Two nights ago was their first successful night of staying in their beds. I am hoping I won’t have to continue with bribes after awhile but we’ll see.

What great beds! Your girls are sleeping in style. :) Hope they continue to do well. We found the door barrier extremely helpful too, but eventually had to go to the lock. Now we just threaten it if we have an episode of running out and it seems to do the trick. Oh for the days when they consistently sleep through the night without dreams, wetting through, potty trips, ear infections, etc...maybe by college?

Adorable beds & bedding! And how awesome that Grandpa made them - cetainly something they will always treasure! It does get easier, although I hate to say it -Elijah still has nights that he gets up 10x to go potty & then wants to be tucked back in again;)
