Life with three 2 year olds is never boring! Before the girls turned 2, I wondered what it would be like with three “terrible” 2 year olds. I was not looking forward to the temper tantrums, taking toys away, hitting, screaming, pushing, antagonizing, etc.? Well, now that they have officially been 2 year olds for 4 months now, I can tell you that temper tantrums, taking toys away, hitting, screaming, pushing, and antagonizing are all pretty common around our house. We have incredibly strong-willed children. However, there are also times of sharing, reading, imagining, caring, reading, giggles, singing, and even more reading. There are definitely times when I see the “terrible twos” and then moments later I am thinking that 2 year olds are so much fun! I am in awe of how amazing each girl is; God has created 3 incredible little ladies.
Seriously, the girls absolutely LOVE to read. Thad’s love of reading must have passed down to them. I hate to admit it, but there are times when I actually get sick of reading books and tell them to go find something else to do.
If you stop by our house, you will find that it is not always clean and usually quite cluttered. There are plenty of projects started but unfinished. You won’t smell dinner cooking in the oven (and if it is cooking, it will probably burn). The hampers will be overflowing with laundry and baskets of clean clothes waiting to be folded. But what you will find is that our house is usually filled with laughter and the sounds of 3 busy and happy little girls.
There are moments when I can hear the girls playing NICELY together from the next room. I treasure those moments. I try to sneak a peak and record the moments on a camera or camcorder without interrupting, but I am usually not successful.
I am amazed by the girls’ vocabulary. They imitate what they hear, which means they are learning new words daily. And sometimes the words are actually understandable. I LOVE to hear them say things unprompted like “bless you, Mama” after a sneeze, “Dada home all done ah work,” "there you go," or “thank you, Mama.” It is so cute.
I joined a MOPS (Mothers of Preschoolers) group, which has been wonderful. The girls actually adjusted to the nursery, which is honestly something I never thought would happen. Now that they go in happily, I get to enjoy a 2 hour break every other week with other moms of young children. The speakers and activities bring me encouragement to be a better mother (which lasts at least a good day or 2) and create a desire for a closer relationship with God. I think every mom of young kids should join a MOPS group, if possible. The group has been such a blessing to me. Plus, it has been really good for the girls. They need to interact with other kids and care providers. The church has some amazing volunteers that watch the girls each time we meet. They do a craft with the kids, read a story, sing songs, have a snack and just provide lots of love and attention. In the car on the way home from MOPS, I usually hear all about it. Samantha likes to sing the songs they must have sung that day. I heard her sing “Jesus” and “Bible.” I asked her if she was singing “Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so?” and she replied “yes.” It was so sweet.
I LOVE being able to stay home with them all day. Don’t get me wrong. There are days that I would give anything to work outside the home and feel jealous of Thad as he goes off to work. But most days, I thank the Lord for my current “employment.”
Before we had the girls, I used to think about how great it would be to one day here the “pitter patter” of little feet in our house. There are times when I get choked up listening to them running around. The “pitter patter” is even better than I expected.
Our November has been unexpectedly warm and sunny. It has been so nice. I am hoping and praying it will help the winter not feel so long. I love living where there are four season, but winter can feel long. The gray days are difficult for me. In fact, I am praying (and would LOVE if others would pray for me too) that I won’t get as depressed this winter like I did the first two winters that I was home with the girls.
Here are some pictures and even a video from what we have been up to lately. Hope you enjoy them.
